What is a Virtual Platform?
A virtual platform is a software model of an embedded hardware and software IP. It includes all of the building blocks of the embedded system, i.e. processor and peripherals. Each platform is ensured to integrate with software IP (RTOS, drivers and protocol stacks) and development tools (IDE, debuggers and compilers) delivering a complete environment for the software development team.
How do I use a Virtio Virtual Platform?
From the Virtio web site click on Products > Virtual Platforms, you will be able to view a virtual platform either on-line or by downloading. To view a platform on-line with your browser click on the Run On-line button next to the platform of your choice. This starts the Citrix Java client on your machine that then connects over the Internet to the Virtio Virtual Platform running on Virtio's server. At that point, the virtual platform is ready for you to evaluate. If you want to run a platform locally on your computer, rather than as an applet in your browser, you can download the platform by selecting the download button for the platform that you are interested in. This download option is available for Windows 98, Windows NT and Windows 2000 but is not currently available for UNIX and other non-Windows platforms.
What is the Citrix Java Client?
This is a program that runs in your browser. It displays on your desktop the interface of the Virtio Virtual Platform even though the platform itself is running on the Virtio server. It also allows you to interact by sending your keyboard and mouse operations back to the server. Because most of the processing and simulation runs on the Virtio server and not on your desktop, the tool will be fast.
Note that this Java applet is downloaded each time you use a Virtio Virtual Platform on-line.
What do I need to evaluate a virtual platform on-line?
- An Internet connection, preferably DSL-equivalent speed or better. Dial-up speeds will work but the graphical display may be slow.
- Either Netscape Navigator (4.75 or later) or Internet Explorer (5.01 or later). Both browsers will install and run a small Citrix Java Client. This applet will in turn display Virtio Virtual Platform as it runs on our application server from within your browser.
How am I limited in my use of an evaluation copy of a Virtio Virtual Platform?
The evaluation copy of a virtual platform includes full functionality. It is only time limited.
How long can I remain connected to a Virtio Virtual Platform over the Web?
The Virtio Virtual Platform will remain connected as long as you actively use it. If you are inactive for two minutes, then the connection will end.
How do I view another platform?
Return to the Products> Virtual Platforms page and choose another platform from the table.
Do I need a license or registration to run Virtio Virtual Platform?
You will need to register to run a platform on-line or to download. The download version includes a 7-day evaluation license.
